As students advance out of Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 1, I give them the option to continue through to book two based on what their interests are as a guitarist. As a private guitar teacher, I have many great reasons for why a student would benefit from Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 2.
The Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 2 is full of different style chords. Students learn power chords in the book which is a great method for students interested in rock or alternative songs. This book has great methods to teach these different styles of chords.
In addition to that, The Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 2 focuses on improvisation. If a student is interested in jazz style music, that section of the book will be beneficial to them in order to learn how to improvise playing guitar. The improvisation portion of the book is a great spot for students interested in playing lead guitar over rhythm guitar.
Finally, this book contains finger picking styles. If a student is interested in a more classical and technical style of guitar playing, this book works on the skills of finger picking and how to read those tabs. I find this to be valuable if a student wants to play guitar at competitions.
