Milwaukee, Wisconsin has the world’s largest music festival, Summerfest. As a musician, it is great that this is in our backyard! Summerfest is a great spot to perform at for many reasons: the exposure, the networking and the performance opportunity! Read below little tips about Summerfest that are from a musician!

You need pockets

As someone who has attended Summerfest, you do not want a purse. When I go to Summerfest I specifically wear clothing that has lots of pockets. One of my favorite items to wear is overalls or a jean skirt. I am able to put necessities in all of my pockets and not need a purse to wear. In addition to that, my phone case has a section to put my cards in that is extremely helpful. Overall, if you are heading to Summerfest, do what you need to do in order to avoid having a purse or extra bag. I promise it will make your life easier.

Watch the promotional days

Summerfest has a lot of promotional days. That means that there are many ways to get in for free on specific days. One of my favorite promotional days is the college days. That is when attendees can get in for free supporting specific colleges. During specific hours, if you wear gear from a specific list of colleges, patrons can get in for free. The college day is great because there are so many booths of colleges and it is a great way to network and receive cool giveaways! Regardless, it is so valuable to watch the promotional days because Summerfest will support great groups and you can benefit from this!

Pay attention to the local stages

I know that when heading to Summerfest you are concerned about getting the best spot for your headliner on the free stages! I suggest coming to Summerfest a tad earlier and checking out the local stages. The local stages that I love are: The Ground Floor Stage and The Second Floor Stage. Some of those musicians work so hard and are extremely talented! You never know what new artist might be your favorite and there are plenty of opportunities to probably see that artist again! I know that when I come to Summerfest whether it is to perform or to attend, I love to network and meet other local musicians! You never know how those people could benefit your life!

Follow artists

Social Media is a powerful source. When I attend Summerfest, I really love to make connections! When I see an artist perform and love their sound, I support them by giving them a follow. Sometimes the best thing a festival attendee can do to support a musician is to give them a follow and engage with their social media content. I love that something so simple can make someone’s day. I try to do that when attending Summerfest and I recommend you do it too!
