Another fun way for students to learn many musical skills is through singing duets. Musical theatre has great options for students to sing fun songs and work with others. One book I enjoy using is The Singer’s Musical Theatre Anthology Volume 2: Duets. Here are 3 duets I enjoy teaching:

Sue Me from Guys and Dolls

This is a fun song for an alto and tenor. They get to have a back and forth banter with each other and really work on those acting skills. In addition this song is quite fast causing students to work on their diction while singing this piece. This is a fun duet that I really enjoy students to try out.

All I Ask of You from The Phantom of the Opera

Looking for a duet for a sweet soprano and strong tenor? “All I Ask of You” is perfect! There are so many sweet moments between this love song. The back and forth between the duet partners really creates a sweet moment and it is from a classic musical. This is a duet that everyone loves to hear!

What is This Feeling? from Wicked

Have two girls full of sass and want a fun duet? Then Wicked is the perfect choice! This has a fun back and forth in the beginning to a big over laying separate parts in the end. This song creates a skill of building strong solo sections that overlaps. I find this piece to be a fun challenge for students.
