Many sopranos enjoy singing musical theatre pieces for contests when they hit that level. One book that I really enjoy using is The Singer’s Musical Theatre Anthology Soprano: Volume 4 because it has a great variety of songs. Below are 3 songs I love to teach my soprano students:

How Lovely to Be a Women from Bye Bye Birde

This song is upbeat and great for a soprano with lots of energy. It has a strong acting quality that can make someone smile. This is a fun one for sopranos to explore their acting ability and grow as a stage performer.

A Lovely Night from Cinderella

A sweet soprano would love to sing this piece! It is full of joy and smiles. It causes a soprano to play Cinderella and share their story about the ball. I recommend this piece for a mezzo soprano because it does not go above the staff.

On The Steps of the Palace from Into The Woods

Another fun way to play the role of Cinderella from a different musical! This song is quick and shares the story of Cinderella deciding if she wants to stay with the prince. She ends up leaving her shoe at the end of the piece. This song allows a soprano to have a fun quirky side, but still use their sweet soprano voice.
