When a student starts to branch into a voice part, it is fun to pick out books for them. When a young soprano starts to emerge, I like to use Easy Songs For the Beginning Soprano. Below are three songs that are fun to learn from this book as a beginning soprano:

Evening Prayer from Hansel and Gretel

For a student who is starting classical and enjoys musical theatre, this is a great piece for a young soprano. The student gets to play a role while working on singing classical music. It is a challenge to start a new genre so when there is an opportunity to connect to something a student enjoys, that is so valuable!

Golden Slumbers

A slow calming piece that is perfect for a sweet soprano. This piece branches a young soprano to start singing runs with the word lullaby near the end of the piece. If a soprano is excited to learn classical, this is a great starter piece for them.

The Lilac Tree

If a singer loves to share a story, The Lilac Tree is the perfect piece for them! This song shares a cute little love story between a little boy and little girl. A student who is full of expression will thrive singing this piece because of how the story is set up. A strong singer with a smile is what I look for when selecting this piece.
